Bio:

Michael Grant is a Senior Digital Designer at the Star Tribune in Minneapolis. He recently left the San Francisco Chronicle where he served as a web designer and site producer who helped lead the newsroom’s thrust into the digital future.

His design ability and understanding of storytelling coupled with an unrelenting interest in web technologies make him key piece of digital initiatives.

Before becoming a web developer at The Chronicle, Grant was a print designer at the Asbury Park Press Design Studio where he was honored with a 2012 Best of Gannett Award for “exceptional design work.”

The early days of his career resemble a thesis, having interned at five newspapers including The New York Times Student Journalism Institute, the Orange County Register, the Baltimore Sun, the Sun-Sentinel, and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He was also selected as a designer for student projects including both NABJ’s and ASNE’s convention student newsrooms.

He has served as a mentor for NABJ’s student project as both a print design and online desk mentor and ONA’s convention student newsroom. He is also a mentor and leader of the Knight/ONA HBCU Digital Media Fellows pilot program.
